Grand Hotel Villa Politi - A historic 4-star hotel with a seasonal outdoor pool, sea-view balconies, and proximity to ancient quarries

Set within the ancient Latomie dei Cappuccini quarries, Grand Hotel Villa Politi features 100 air-conditioned rooms with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and furnished balconies offering sea glimpses. The seasonal outdoor pool, one of Syracuse's largest, is surrounded by well-maintained brick patios and loungers. Guests at the Villa Politi can relax on umbrellas and deck chairs by the quarry rocks or enjoy the hotel's restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a European-style cold buffet. A public bus to Ortigia-home to attractions like Fountain of Arethusa and Teatro Greco-stops near the property, roughly 10 minutes away by car. The lobby includes a fireplace, grand staircase, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, while the business center supports work needs. Many rooms feature Art Nouveau furnishings, soundproofing, and private bathrooms with bathtubs or showers.

Pros

The seasonal outdoor pool is surrounded by landscaped parkland, offering a secluded retreat.

Many rooms include furnished balconies with partial sea views, approximately 300 yards away.

Ω- Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, including in rooms and public areas.

The hotel is set along the edge of Syracuse's archaeological sites, including the ancient Latomie dei Cappuccini quarries.

A public bus to Ortigia stops in front of the hotel, providing access to key attractions.

Cons

The outdoor pool operates seasonally, typically available only from mid-June to mid-September.

Most dining and major attractions require a short trip to Ortigia, as the immediate area is residential and quieter.

amazing coffee fine pool wonderful service
i found the coffee amazing. the pool was fine and very clean. the staff provided wonderful service, especially around the pool, offering food and drinks. i especially appreciated the gluten-free pizzette prepared for me (a small detail, but it mattered).
i found the breakfast average. the offering could use improvement. it fell short of the standard i expected from such an hotel.

The breakfast was peaceful and included pastries, eggs, bread, and cereal, with a wide selection of food items.
The plumbing requires an update. The shower cubicle was small, and the shower head was hard to adjust. Complimentary water was not available in the room, nor were coffee or tea making facilities provided.
